Delia accuses Robert Abela of breaching parliamentary privilege after leak accusation

Shadow Minister for Health Adrian Delia requested that the Speaker investigate allegations made by the Prime Minister Robert Abela in his regard that it was he who leaked the Nationalist Party’s pre-budget document.

On Tuesday, during the Prime Minister’s budget reaction speech, Abela said that the leaked document had been shared among seven people within the party with the implication of a senior PN member. Additionally, Abela later said that the Opposition leader should not trust his predecessor, that is, Adrian Delia.

Following Parliamentary Questions, Delia called on the Speaker to investigate the allegation made by the Prime Minister during his post-budget speech on Tuesday, that the Shadow Minister for Health had leaked the pre-budget document to the Labour Party, and ultimately for the Prime Minister to substantiate or retire his claim, calling a breach of parliamentary privilege.

PL Whip Naomi Cachia quickly stepped-in to say she didn’t know who leaked it however, Delia quickly questioned that if even the Labour Whip didn’t know, then how the Prime Minister could have had such information.

Speaker Anglu Farrugia agreed to look into the matter.
