An ‘extremist branch’ has taken over the PN leadership - Labour Party

The Labour Party has said that an extremist branch has taken over the reins of the Nationalist Party, given the comments that were allowed to be said during last weekend's general council.

In a statement Tuesday, the PL said the PN General Council descended into "attacks and derogatory comments" on the Labour Party, which was also described as being "satanistic".

The PL said that the Opposition leader must understand that what happened in the General Council is simple the result of "the extremist branch took the absolute leadership of the PN in its hands".

The Labour Party said that after the PN lost control of its own General Council, it's doing everything it can to hide the insults against the government and the prime minister. It said that whilst the PN leader Bernard Grech tried to create the expectation for a vision that was to be explained, the General Council ended up being "a manifestation of attacks and derogatory comments".

The PL said that amongst the moments that stood out most, was the "shocking declaration" by a primary speaker of the General Council comparing the Labour Party to satanists. It said that NET News itself decided to give prominence to this item as one of the important messages of the General Council but as soon as the Labour Party condemned it and there was a strong negative reaction from the public, NET News was forced to change the article and totally removed all reference to this declaration.

The Labour Party said that now, the PN "turned on" the TVM since, "in its own words", it is not right that on Sunday evening the public broadcasting's news reported a Labour statement as a reaction to the service on the PN's General Council.

The PL said that in another request the PN's General Secretary Michael Piccinino made to the Broadcasting Authority, he "threatened" TVM not to attribute what was said in the General Council to the PN.
