The government has never had a plan except to seize things for itself, Nationalist Party Leader Bernard Grech said on Sunday as he made an appearance on party media.
Grech remarked that the government has no plan to address the people's issues, and added that even Labour Party supporters "can no longer stand all this dirt".
During his speech, Grech took aim at the Prime Minister, and at the government.
The Opposition Leader said that Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri "will keep doing whatever he wants" as long as Prime Minister Abela "remains weak".
Grech said that the Prime Minister is weak because he is not motivated to do good for the people, but is only motivated to remain in his position. Abela, he said, "evidently has no direction" and argued that "the country is going on without a plan".
The PN Leader said that the government has made a number of U-turns. "The government was talking about an electric fleet of buses, which would reduce air pollution, but we have learned that this is not happening, and instead the money was given to those who bought electrical vehicles," said the PN Leader, as he questioned why the government cannot do both of these initiatives if it had planned ahead well.
"It's good that those people were paid, but now because of a lack of planning the electric bus fleet is not happening." Grech commented that the Prime Minister attempted to hide this situation "like he tried to hide €70,000 that he himself approved for Amanda Muscat", referring to the Standards Commissioner's report involving Gozo Minister Camilleri, former Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo, and Bartolo's wife Amanda Muscat.
Grech said that the Prime Minister has so many personal problems to hide that he has to let his friends do whatever they want. He continued that the road ahead is clear, and said that the government does not know how to choose as it makes constant U-turns. He said that the PN is offering a stable government with a long-term plan as well as an immediate plan. "Plans not based on convenience, but conviction."
"It is evident that the Labour's plot, the plot of their political story, always remains the same. The characters change, but the plot remains the same. This is a party with a number of people who have been thinking for the past eleven years, and still think to this day, that our country is theirs. Unfortunately, we have a Prime Minister who is so weak that he has to let them do what they want," Grech said. "While Clayton Bartolo had to go, Clint Camilleri, who did worse when it comes to Amanda Muscat's employment, is still there. Robert Abela has to put his head down and let him remain."
Speaking about a protest organised by the PN on Monday 2nd December, in which it called for the removal of Minister Camilleri, Grech said that the people sent a clear message. The message is that things can no longer remain as they are, and that it is evident that the government has no direction or vision for the country, he said. Nor does it have the strength or will to address the problems, Grech added.
Grech spoke about the ongoing situation regarding the dispute between the Malta Union of Teachers and the government, concerning MCAST and ITS. He said that the Prime Minister's attitude towards the lecturers is ultimately impacting the students, who he described as the future of the country. Grech remarked that with these workers, Abela wants to be combative, but does not have the strength to make decisions when it involves others. Grech said that Education has always been an important pillar for the PN.
The Opposition Leader said that governance for the PN is not just important, but is also what improves the country's reputation. He commented that in order to attract investment, Malta needs to have a good reputation. "That Abela lies is something that everyone knows. He lies constantly. The truth is that, although it is humorous, it is a tragedy to have a Prime Minister that lies. He lied to Isabelle Bonnici, he lied about the economy and the hospitals."
Grech alleged that Abela has lied in the case to bring back the €400 million from the hospitals deal. The PN Leader said that the first thing the PN did was ask the Prime Minister to open a case himself, which he did not. Grech continued that he then gave the direction to open a court case to establish that the State Advocate is able to open the case without the Prime Minister's direction. "The court agreed with us," Grech said, "the State Advocate does not need anyone's authorisation to open such a case." He remarked that Abela did not open this case nor did he make the appeal. "We achieved this historic victory, and it is not a victory for us, rather it is a victory for the people."
He said that the PN will keep applying pressure, "because that money is the people's". He said that a new nationalist government would open a case "to bring back the people's €400 million".
