A protest is being organised by the Nationalist Party on Sunday, 9th March at 3pm in front of Parliament, Leader of the Nationalist Party Bernard Grech has announced.
"The public is encouraged to attend and send a clear message to Robert Abela's Government."
Grech said that the Government is failing every Maltese and Gozitan on a daily basis.
"This Government is failing because it makes poor decisions; because it is stubborn; because it is focused only on itself and on how to protect its own interests; because it is exhausted and lacks focus."
This is a Government that has failed because it is led by a "weak Prime Minister, one who makes U-turn after U-turn, whose hands are tied by those around him, and who has backed himself into a corner. Every week, the public is given fresh proof of this failure."
The latest example, the party said in a statement, was the theft of drugs from a supposedly maximum-security facility.
"The Minister blunders but remains in place. The Government is failing you on security," it said.
"Yesterday, we saw how a weak government even tries to silence those whose role is to teach us how to express ourselves: teachers. A Government that seeks to intimidate educators. The Government is failing you in education."
The party said that in recent weeks, "we have seen a Government that tries to silence you even when you are suffering injustice. It rushed to Parliament to deprive you of your right to justice. The Government is failing you in justice."
"Every day, we experience the Government's failures - with roads choked by traffic, an overwhelmed healthcare system, overcrowded public transport, and hospitals that have become a national scandal. All of this stems from poor decisions and a lack of planning. Every day, we are paying the price for the government's incompetence. The Government is failing you in the most basic services."
This is a Government that has taken care of its own, filling their pockets while forgetting the workers, the PN said.
"A Government disconnected from our daily realities. A Government untouched by the rising cost of living because its pockets are full, while yours are struggling. The Government is failing you in the fight against the cost of living."
"Because this Government has backed itself into a corner, it cannot even remove a Minister who has placed the security of his own people at risk. A Prime Minister who forced his ministers to bow to Byron Camilleri's incompetence, and who will now have to bow to every future mistake they make. Just as he did when he forced them to bow their heads in the disgraceful vote against Jean Paul Sofia's mother's request for an inquiry."
"This week, Robert Abela once again chose those who failed you over you. Instead of prioritising your safety and that of your children, he chose to protect his own interests," the PN said.
"This is a Government that is exhausted. A Government that, after 12 years of scandals, has nowhere left to turn. A corrupt and crumbling Government. A tired Government with no ideas. A Government unable to provide direction because it is lost in its own chaos. Last June, the people started sending their message to the Government. They told it to change course. But this Government has buried its head in the sand. It cannot and will not change the downward path it has taken."
Only the people can change the direction of this country, the PN said.
"The people want change. And the PN is responding to the people's call. It is ready to be there to give this country the fresh start it desperately needs after a tired and directionless Government."
The PN said that the current government has failed in the fight against the cost of living, has failed because it has no economic direction, has failed in healthcare, causing suffering and inconvenience to patients and their relatives, has failed in education, with students studying in containers and schools that are too small for the growing number of students. "It has failed students and lecturers by dragging its feet on their working conditions."
It said that the government has failed in infrastructure, which cannot keep up with the population. It said that the government has failed in national security. It said that the government has failed in the fight against drugs. It said that the government has failed to protect its citizens.
"A Government that has failed Gozitans with a lack of connectivity, a second-hand ferry, an unbuilt hospital, deteriorating roads, and a shrinking job market in new industries."
"A Government that has failed where it matters to you. A Government that has failed you."
PN Leader Bernard Grech appealed to every Maltese and Gozitan who wants change to be in front of Parliament on Sunday, 9th March at 3pm.
"This is a hard-working nation that wants to move forward. And the people will show Robert Abela that they will not be silenced. That they will not be stopped from achieving the change they so desire. Because they know they deserve a government that works for them, not one that fails them. Every day."
