PN ‘detached from reality’ and unable to put forward genuine solutions, PL says

The Labour Party noted Friday how "detached the Nationalist Party is from reality" when it proposed measures that are already being implemented by the government.

Yesterday the PN announced proposals regarding property affordability that have already been carried out by a Labour Government and thousands of people, including young people, are already benefiting from them, the PL said.

One of the measures that the Nationalist Party is proposing, which already exists and is being implemented, is the abolition of stamp duty on the first €200,000 on house purchases, a measure that thousands of people have already benefited from. Loan schemes at preferential rates for first-time buyers have already been introduced, with an agreement between the government and commercial banks making it easier for couples and young people to buy their first property.

There's also the proposal identifying public lands to build dedicated areas for affordable property that is already being implemented by the government, the PL said. The Housing Authority and the government are working on various projects in various areas and localities across the country for the benefit of first-time buyers to provide them with homes at affordable prices.

The Labour government is helping financially through schemes and grants for property owners, including first-time buyers who are benefiting from €1,000 per year for 10 years. With the introduction of this scheme in 2023, more than 4,900 families have already benefited from it, and in June this year, they will receive another €1,000, the PL said.

The PL also recalled that when the Nationalist Party was in government, it only allocated €2 million to social housing. Today, under a Labour government, this amount was used to install lifts in public buildings in just one year. This is a clear difference of priorities and seriousness in the delivery of services and true support to people.

All this clearly indicates that the PN is proposing measures that already exist and is unable to come up with genuine solutions. The Labour Government remains committed to offering serious solutions, which can be implemented while maintaining financial balance and ensuring stability in the coming years, the PL said.
