A man was grievously injured and another was arrested following a fight in Paola on Thursday morning, the police said.

The fight broke out in Zabbar Road at 9.40am.

It involved a Syrian man, aged 47, who lives in Paola, and a Libyan 37-year-old man who resides in Zurrieq.

The Syrian man was injured after being hit by a metal pipe. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

The Libyan man was arrested by police in the Paola Square area.

Magistrate Ian Farrugia is leading an inquiry.
