Games For European Small States- Cycling: Schiavone and Treacy carry Malta’s hopes

Malta Independent Tuesday, 31 May 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Also in the cycling field, Malta also has high hopes of success in the time-trial where Jackie Schiavone and David Treacy are being considered among the favourites to win a medal, though not necessarily a gold.

The Maltese clan seems to be very optimistic. Those I have contacted so far are confident that their athletes will be faring well.

Cycling Association official Austin Camilleri said: "It is not going to be easy, but we have hopes that we can reap some success here. Jackie Schiavone has certainly improved by leaps and bounds and, if he reaches his peak here, he might also be able to make it to the podium, especially in the time-trial.

"We also have high hopes in the abilities of David Treacy who has shown us that he is a strong cyclist who can achieve success in Europe."
