WasteServ Signs agreement with owners of RCVs

Malta Independent Thursday, 6 March 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

WasteServ Malta Ltd yesterday signed an agreement with all owners of the Refuse Collection Vehicles (RCVs) in Gozo. This will result in a marked improvement of the waste collection service in Malta’s sister island. This agreement, a first of the type, shall encourage the standardisation of all trucks providing this essential service in Gozo while enhancing the standards of waste collection with regards to cleanliness and general appearance.

Commenting during the presentation at WasteServ’s Gozo office, chief executive officer Ing. Vince Magri said that “the aims of this agreement are to lay down requirements black on white so that all operators in Gozo shall be expected to provide a service of quality to the Gozitan residents and to the Island’s many visitors.

“With this agreement, for example, all trucks will have to be washed and disinfected after every trip to WasteServ’s temporary Waste Management Facility in Qortin. This will make sure that trucks do not create unnecessary inconveniences while doing their day-to-day work”.

Apart from being washed and disinfected after every trip, this agreement lays down that each truck should have the rear end covered while traveling in public roads when not collecting waste, that trucks should be standardised by being painted in the same colour scheme, and that each vehicle will convey a message promoting the separation of waste.

These initiatives are all intended to set standards in waste collection while respecting the ever increasing expectations of our dense population.
