Illegal Dumping in Xghajra

Malta Independent Sunday, 16 March 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

A couple of months ago, a small article about the illegal dumping of waste on the coastline of Xghajra between Zabbar and Marsascala was posted on Indymedia Malta (www.malta.indymedia.org).

Construction waste was being dumped in various places in the large public and undeveloped area of Xghajra’s coastline and no authority has, up to now, made any effort to stop this illegal dumping. Trucks have only one road on which they can drive in order to arrive at the rough terrain of the coastline.

After a couple of months, the situation is still the same and the amount of illegal dumping is increasing more than ever. Domestic waste is now also becoming more common on this long stretch of coastline and no local council is taking the situation seriously.

Indymedia Malta believes that such incidents should be given more exposure in the media due to the threat they pose to the country’s local heritage.

Shown are some photographs of the most recent dumping.
