Mistra Scandal: ‘Strong campaign of intimidation’ – MLP

Malta Independent Wednesday, 21 May 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 17 years ago

The Labour Party said a strong campaign of intimidation was being carried out in connection with the Mistra land deal scandal and the personal involvement in it of Nationalist MP Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando. The victims of this campaign were people in trade and journalists who in the election campaign had followed and reported developments about the land deal.

Dr Pullicino Orlando had in a radio interview tried to distract attention from his personal role by making baseless allegations aimed to intimidate, about how the MLP got to know about the Mistra scandal.

He did the same in parliament last week.

The campaign has also included the circulation of fake emails about the scandal which were said to have been exchanged during the election campaign.

The emails were supposed to be correspondence between a small group of people, including the MLP secretary general, a businessman and a journalist. They were totally fake, the MLP said.

It was shameful that to date the Prime Minister and the Nationalist Party had not taken any steps against Dr Pullicino Orlando for the way he had been caught lying both before, and after the election, about the Mistra scandal, the MLP said.
