Woman Claims her accusations cost her job

Malta Independent Wednesday, 21 May 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

A former St Luke’s Hospital worker, who said she was forced to appear before a medical board after denouncing abuse at the hospital, claimed she was fit for re-entering the public service.

Laura Peregin, 61, from Attard, filed a constitutional application in the First Hall of Civil Courts claiming that the authorities described her previous application requesting her reinstatement within the public service as unfounded.

She claimed the authorities denied her right to a fair hearing in breach of basic human rights, the Constitution of Malta and the European Convention.

Ms Peregin also claimed three psychiatrists, Dr Peter Muscat, Dr Joseph Vella Baldacchino and Dr Joseph Spiteri independently declared her fit to remain in employment in the public service.

The application was filed against the Prime Minister, the Health Minister, the Director-General of Health, the hospital Superintendent and the Attorney General.

Dr Anglu Farrugia signed the writ.
