Melita Get Malta football rights

Malta Independent Saturday, 30 August 2008, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Melita has just concluded a deal with UEFA through which the local company has won the exclusivity for the rights involving the Champions League and the UEFA Cup from 2009 to 2012.

Melita is the broadcast partner in Malta.

The deal means that the broadcaster will deliver comprehensive coverage of each competition across its Melita Sports channels as well as wide exposure on one of their basic tier channels.

This will include live coverage of all UEFA Champions League matches as well as highlights on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the weekly magazine programme.

The UEFA Champions League media rights for 2009-12 will also include the UEFA Super Cup in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Melita will show at least five live UEFA Cup games each match-week as well as highlights. Melita will also exploit the rights on the Internet via www.melitacable.com and on mobile to deliver an extensive choice of coverage not only on television but also via online and mobile services to fans on the island.

Commenting on the award of these rights in Malta, UEFA said: “We are delighted to announce the renewal of our partnership with Melita Cable. The UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Cup are extremely popular with football fans in Malta and these deals will secure excellent coverage of each of these great competitions for those fans. Melita is a proven broadcast partner of UEFA and we welcome the opportunity to continue to work with them during the next rights cycle.”
