Horse-racing Season gaining momentum

Malta Independent Saturday, 21 January 2012, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

After last week’s return to racing, another meeting will be held at the Marsa race track tomorrow, starting at 1.30pm and consisting of eight races.

As usual, the Premier class race is the key attraction of the meeting.

Sixteen of Malta’s best trotters compete in a balanced 2,140m race, including horses which were recently promoted after splendid performances in the Gold class, such as Nagano Phedo, Count of Life, Naja in Blue, Ouest du Vivier and Anguz R.C., many popular horses in the Premier class and some recent newcomers. The outcome of this race is truly difficult to predict.

There will also be two interesting Gold class races. The first groups horses which are close to promotion to the Premier class, many of which try to further consolidate recent positive performances, including Nomade de Mai, Jobie Lucky, Master Lupin, Najac, Vasterbo Hitchiker and others.

The other Gold class race also features top quality horses, many of which competed in the Premier class until recently, such as Le Bolide du Suret, Affe Fager, Lascar Beaujolais and others.

We also have a 1,250m short-distance Class A flat race which will see the participation of Mediterranean Derby winner Buttermilk and Coronation Cup winner Fyelehk, three newcomers and other seasoned performers.

As the season starts gaining momentum and horses regain their form after the New Year break, more uncertain and hard-fought races are anticipated.
