The conference is organised by the Irish presidency of the European Union and its aim is that EU member states, and those joining on 1 May, will discuss ways in which the EU can transmit information to European citizens.

One of the points being discussed is how the EU can communicate with its citizens in their own language. Another subject is the creation of a common electronic system through which European citizens can request more information about the European Union.

Apart from representatives of the various governments, the conference will be attended by European Parliament president Pat Cox as well as EU commissioners Pascal Lamy and Antonio Vittorino.
