Malta Independent Saturday, 10 April 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Speaking during a meeting with the Malta Tourism Authority, Dr Sant said the MLP committee for Cottonera wanted to know whether the MTA was interested in Labour’s Cottonera project. He explained that the committee has begun work on a number of projects in the area and several parts of Cottonera can indeed be a boost to tourism, if they are well taken care of.

The Opposition Leader highlighted the need for a tourist map of the area as well as basic establishments such as public toilets, cafeterias and restaurants. He spoke of the possibility of the MTA creating some form of sponsorship for those interested in investing in tourism in the Cottonera area.

The Labour Cottonera Committee is working on a pilot programme to educate illiterate young people and school-leavers who have not found work, said Dr Sant. He also pointed out that the MLP has held meetings with several banks asking them to invest in the Cottonera project.

Labour MP Joe Mizzi, and the mayors of Cospicua and Kalkara Joseph Scerri and Michael Cohen, were among those present at yesterday’s meeting.
