Malta Independent Monday, 12 April 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

The tabernacle has replaced the temporary brass one that had been part of the high altar of Gzira parish church since 1948.

It was paid for with donations made by Gzira parishioners. Fr Cachia made the first donation of Lm300.

The tabernacle was designed by Silvio Pace from Qormi who, kept the original door design that had been stipulated by the Sacred Art Commission of the Curia.

Mr Pace’s design was realised by Tarcisio Cassar of Zejtun, who fashioned the new tabernacle out of gold and hammered silver.

The rubies, sapphires, antique rose-cut diamonds and semi-precious stones used in the overall design were mounted by Mediterranean Diamonds, Hamrun.
