The men, a 25-year-old from Sliema and a 40-year-old from Valletta, were carrying out construction work on the roof of a house in St Francis Street in Hamrun when the roof collapsed.

Members of the Civil Protection Department were called on scene to free the men from the debris and they were rushed to hospital. The younger man suffered slight injuries while the Valletta man was more seriously injured.

Magistrate Antonio Mizzi appointed several experts to assist him in the inquiry. Hamrun district police are investigating.
