These included the physical education examination at SEC level and the setting up of a Physical Education and Sport Institute at the University, Dr Galea said.

The minister was speaking during a seminar on Education through Sport, which is being held as part of activities marking the European Year dedicated to Education through Sport. Teachers from Latvia, Greece, Spain, Cyprus, Romania, Slovenia, Lithuania, Estonia, Bulgaria and Germany, as well as Malta, took part.

Dr Galea said that the time has come to consolidate the relationship among the Maltese Council for Sport, the Education Division and the University. This consolidation will hopefully come about with the establishment of a working group on physical education and sport.
