St John’s Co-Cathedral’s Cannon carriages restored

Malta Independent Tuesday, 27 April 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

The restoration was carried out through an initiative by the Valletta and Floriana Rehabilitation Project within the Resources and Infrastructure Ministry.

One of the carriages only needed minor work, however, the second needed substantial repair. Despite being a simple procedure, all the necessary steps were taken to ensure that job was done properly.

The work was carried out under the supervision of the

architect Amanda Degiorgio while Stephen Spiteri and Fondazzjoni Wirt Artna were consulted.

The cannons are from the Knights’ period, however the supporting carriages were actually built in the nineteenth century by the Woolwich Royal Carriage Department in the United Kingdom and are among the very few remaining examples in the world
