It has also called for stricter enforcement to ensure that the residential and natural environment near construction sites is not left to deteriorate.

Commenting on the prevailing lack of enforcement, AD’s environment spokesman Mark Causon said: “The government should act by imposing stiff penalties, including the withdrawal of permits, in cases where the rights of residents are not respected and where safety regulations are not abided by. Local councils should also be empowered to defend residents from the arrogance of certain building contractors”.
