Man Convicted of trying to sell contraband cigarettes

40-year-old Alan Vella, from Swieqi was also found guilty of breaching copyright, forging a public document and using it maliciously.

In addition to the suspended sentence, Vella was also fined Lm1,732.24, which is the amount he would have had to pay had he imported the cigarettes legally.

The court was presided over by Magistrate Tonio Micallef Trigona.

Inspector Bernard Zarb prosecuted while Dr Jose Herrera appeared for defence.
