Art Links Focuses on modern art

Other participating schools were Erin Serracino Inglott Girls’ Secondary School, Cospicua; St Joseph Boys’ Junior Lyceum, Paola; Margaret Mortimer Girls’ Junior Lyceum, St Lucia; Carlo Diacono Girls’ Junior Lyceum, Zejtun and St Edward’s College, Cospicua.

Art Links was originally the brainchild of Ms Cappello, headmistress at Erin Serracino Inglott Secondary School six years ago. Since then, the organising schools have never looked back, improving on previous editions.

For the first time, this year’s edition included a three-day workshop during which students created art on the spot under the guidance of their teachers. This ranged from pottery to sculpture and from paintings to “mobile” expositions. The works were then included as part of the actual exhibition which ran until Wednesday. Acclaimed artist Joseph Paul Cassar was invited to give a lecture on modern art.

The exhibition concentrated on modern art and students studied the artistic expression of masters such as Picasso, de Chirico and Henry Moore, just to mention a few.

Art Links goes hand in hand with the Division’s National Minimum Curriculum and also serves as a healthy extra-curricular activity where schools join forces to create a unique atmosphere where creativity is a priority.

Other schools and the public were invited to attend.

The organising committee was made up of art teachers Keith Balzan, Raymond Darmanin and Oreste Calleja
