The unveiling of the restored fountain was held on Friday, the eve of the European Union enlargement.

Rural Affairs and the Environment Minister George Pullicino thanked Farsons for its support, pointing out that the fountain embellishes the national park which is enjoyed by the public throughout the year.

Simonds Farsons Cisk plc deputy chief executive, marketing, Anthony J. Tabone said this project deserved the support of the commercial community and Farsons, which has always demonstrated a high sense of social responsibility, could not refuse the request made by the Ministry to cooperate on the project.

The need for the restoration and refurbishing of the fountain became even more necessary when the fountain’s mechanical equipment was destroyed in last autumn’s flooding. The project served as a good opportunity for technical personnel from the private sector to work closely with those of the public sector, resulting in the work being completed on schedule.

The unveiling of the fountain was followed by the unveiling of a commemorative plaque by Mr Pullicino and the planting of an oak sapling by Mr Tabone.

Also at the ceremony was Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment Parks Unit head George Buhagiar.
