Professor Marini will speak today at 7.30pm at the Caraffa Stores, Vittoriosa, about Caravaggio’s early picture of Bacchus, which is held in the Galleria Borghese in Rome.
He challenges the fact that it is known as the “Sick Bacchus”. This painting is held to be a self-portrait, with Michelangelo Merisi di Caravaggio dressed up in the robes of the mythical god of wine and festivity.
