Police inspector Michael Mallia said that when the accused realised that the police were on the trail, they seriously thought about disposing of the paintings.

The inspector also said that police searched the house and garages belonging to Joseph Portelli after receiving instructions from Commissioner John Rizzo. When they searched the buildings, Joseph Portelli told them that his brother Dennis had asked him to look after the paintings for him.

Joseph Portelli told the police that Ian Farrugia and Charles Falzon were also involved in the plot. The case continues. Police inspector Michael Mallia prosecuted while Dr Ian Farrugia appeared for defence.
