In this regard, the Central Bank of Malta would, once again, like to highlight the two main security features that can be identified in genuine banknotes.
The watermark: When a banknote is viewed against the light the watermark should be easily visible on the white oval patch.
The watermark shows a sharp and clear image of an allegorical head.
If in doubt, compare with a genuine banknote.
The security thread: When viewed against the light a security thread should always be visible as a continuous line crossing the banknote vertically.
When the banknote is laid flat, the security thread on recent banknotes appears as a dotted silvery line.
On older banknotes, however, the security thread is embedded in the paper and does not show at all except when viewed against the light.
Again, if in doubt, compare with a genuine banknote.
