ADT Addressing queuing problems

Malta Independent Saturday, 3 July 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

In a press statement released yesterday evening, the ADT explained that it is trying to introduce different services through which people will be able to renew licences without visiting the offices of the Licensing and Testing Directorate.

One of these possibilities is the introduction of an on-line system, which will allow insurance agents to renew road licences. It is expected to be introduced in the coming weeks.

The ADT is also looking at ways of improving its Customer Care Desk at the Licensing and Testing Department in order to improve public relations. This means that more counter assistants will be on duty at the end of each month.

The Authority said that the queuing saga is repeated, inevitably, towards the end of every month when vehicle road licences expire and is, more often than not, the result of the general trend for people to leave their road licence renewals until the end of the month. The ADT said it therefore intends to carry out work in order to protect clients from the elements while queuing outside.

This means that human and material resources at the Directorate are under-used up to the middle of the month and, conversely, the department faces an overwhelming demand at the end of the month.

In order to cope with this problem, the ADT said that employees are being asked to work longer than the normal summer office hours.
