Dr Sant’s Reaction: More mysteries emerging

Malta Independent Sunday, 4 July 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Speaking at a press conference in the evening after the events of the day unfolded, Dr Sant complained that no statement was made in Parliament nor a press conference held and only the exchange of letters between Mr Dalli and Prime Minister Gonzi published.

While Dr Gonzi was now saying that the Iranian shipping company case allegations have not been substantiated, and that he intends to accept Mr Dalli’s suggestions as regards the tourist agency case, yet he accepted Mr Dalli’s resignation.

Dr Sant dwelt substantially on the Summary of Events written by Mr Dalli along with his letter of resignation and dwelt on where the attacks on Mr Dalli came from.

He hinted that the trail of attacks on Mr Dalli led up to, from what Mr Dalli wrote, to Dr Gonzi himself.

Besides, Dr Sant added, there are other questions to be asked about Mr Dalli: what is happening in Libya, and the hospital equipment contract.

Dr Sant also claimed that before the Labour Party had brought the allegations as regards Mr Dalli to the notice of the public, Dr Gonzi had asked those who were complaining to keep everything under wraps until 12 June.

He also claimed that had he not spoken out in Parliament on Monday, the case would have been swept under the carpet.

Finally Dr Sant asked how could Mr Dalli remain an MP after all this.
