The meeting is the first of its kind, bringing together Maltese ambassadors stationed in different countries and high ranking officials from the ministry discussing the foreign policy.

The meeting is the first step in a consultation process that will lead to the publishing of a document, Minister Michael Frendo said, that highlights ways with which Malta can increase its political relevance and improve Malta’s level of prosperity and security.

Today’s meeting had the ambassadors’ role on the agenda with emphasis being placed on their dual function of attracting foreign investment and making new contacts to improve tourism from the countries they work in. During the session MTA chairman Chris Grech and Malta Enterprise CEO Philip Micallef gave presentations.

There will also be discussions on ways the foreign policy could help stimulate economic growth and attract foreign investment.

The meeting will continue today when the discussion over the foreign policy strategic goals should end late in the evening.
