Stephen Urry, 22 from Paola, stole four motorbikes between February 1998 and September 2001, from Paola, Fgura, Senglea and Tarxien. He admitted driving a motorbike without a licence or insurance, receiving stolen goods and erasing the serial number off a motorbike’s engine and frame.

Urry was also guilty of damaging two of the stolen motorbikes and being in possession of ammunition and an unlicensed pointed weapon.

The court noted that the man committed various thefts over a period of time and he did not learn his lesson because he continued to break the law.

The man had a drug problem and never asked for help until the last sitting of the case.

The court also considered that since he was unemployed, he could not make good for the damage he had caused.

The man was therefore convicted of the crimes he admitted to and sentenced to a two-year jail term.

The court was presided over by Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera while Inspector Jason Agius prosecuted.
