George Azzopardi, 41, from Hamrun, was accused of sending emails and anonymous letters to a television personality, whose name cannot be published due to a court order, and other people.
In the emails, the personality’s photograph was placed on to a pornographic one. Apart from the offending emails, the man also allegedly sent obscene items.
Mr Azzopardi was accused of making illegal use of electronic apparatus, committing a crime with the intention to tarnish people’s reputation and relapsing in view of previous convictions.
Magistrate Silvio Meli upheld the defence attorney’s request for bail against a Lm1,000 personal guarantee. Presiding magistrate Silvio Meli turned down the request for a ban on the accused’s name.
Inspector Bernard Zarb prosecuted while Dr Manwel Mallia appeared for the defence.
