Mr Fean visited the Down’s Syndrome Association’s premises in Valletta. The association aims to contact parents of newly born babies with Down’s syndrome as early as possible and to provide counselling and support particularly in the early stages of a baby’s life.

Physiotherapy and speech therapy services are available at the centre. It strives to increase public awareness and understanding of the nature of Down’s syndrome people so they may lead a rewarding and full life. The association press the authorities for better services and greater choice in the facilities offered to children and adults with Down’s syndrome, such as education, therapy, training and independent living. It also supports professionals in their work and research of Down’s syndrome.

The Association publishes a bilingual magazine twice yearly called News & Views. It is the mouthpiece of the association and is distributed free of charge.

The association is an independent registered charity, established and run by parents. It relies entirely on voluntary donations to continue with its work. The work of the association depends upon the generosity of its members and the general public through donations that help in meeting the administrative costs and the subsidisation of the services offered. All donations to the association are also tax deductible.
