James Borg, Neil Bugeja, Gabriel Ellul, Ambrose Galea and Alexander Grima, all Form 1 students at St Augustine’s College, did Malta proud by coming first in the Mediterranean Expo Science held in Valbonne – Antipolis, France, last week, with their project entitled Air Pollution: What’s the Solution?î

The students participated in this Expo after winning first place in the National Student Travel Foundation’s School Contest for Young Scientists II which was supported by the Malta Chamber of Scientists, Tumas Group and Air Malta.

During the Expo, the participants exhibited their projects and followed a series of visits and lectures together with their counterparts from other Mediterranean Countries. The prize presented to the students will cover participation in Expo Science International to be held in Chile in July 2005. The students hope to find the necessary financial support to cover their travel to this expo to once again represent Malta to their fullest capabilities.

Jan Cutajar, Andre Attard and Mark Anthony Cachia, Form 2 students at De La Salle College, who came second in the NSTF School Contest for Young Scientists also took part in the Mediterranean Expo with their project entitled Logic Gates supervised by Mr Lawrence Attard.

All the Maltese participants made a very good impression on the expo organisers as well as other participants and visitors, which augurs well for a new generation of Maltese scientists.
