Labour Party on genetically modified organisms and products after comments made in Parliament by spokesman Noel Farrugia.
Mr Farrugia said the Party was against the importation and distribution of genetically modified products in Malta.
The NGO welcomed this stand since it followed hard on the heels of government’s objection to the introduction of genetically modified seeds in the EU during the Council of Ministers voting sessions and after the call of Alternattiva Demokratika for Malta to be part of the GMO-free zone.
Nature Trust is encouraging the political parties to hold their ground in the name of precaution for human health, agriculture and biodiversity and to put forward proposals to make sure that all products for human or animal consumption imported into Malta come from GMO-free sources.
