The lab, managed and operated entirely by Maltese workers, has reached internal standards of credibility and competence to carry out state-of-the-art tests on water quality.

In order to be given this certification, the laboratory had to undergo a number of stringent tests laid down by the Malta Standards Authority.

While congratulating the laboratory for achieving such standards, the Competitiveness Ministry urged other laboratories to apply for such a certification because this will help them improve the quality of their operations.

The ministry said that this certification means that laboratories have reached higher standards and this would be beneficial to industry in Malta and also for individual clients.

There are various laboratories in Malta carrying out a number of tests, including tests on food, forensic tests, blood tests and other medical tests, bathing water quality tests and others.

Competitiveness Minister Censu Galea said there were a number of responsibilities which were brought about with this certification. However, he said, there are also a number of aspects from which the laboratories will surely benefit, especially in view of the certification of competence and credibility.
