In his opening speech at a seminar for AD members, with the theme: Futur f’Idejk (The Future is in Your Hands), held yesterday morning at the Vivaldi Hotel in St Julian’s, party chairman Harry Vassallo called on the Malta Labour Party (MLP) and the Nationalist Party (PN) to announce a date for the start of talks on electoral reform.

“Both the PN and the MLP secretary generals accepted our invitation to initiate these talks during a television debate. They have also accepted a written invitation made by our general secretary Stephen Cachia.

“More than a month has passed and no date has been announced for this meeting. If the MLP and the PN are real democrats they should work with us to ensure that thousands of AD voters will not be left unrepresented in the next election.

“Promises made on TV cannot be allowed to vanish into thin air, which is what apparently happened to Dr Gonzi’s promise to invite AD to MCESD meetings,” Dr Vassallo said.

AD secretary general Stephen Cachia announced that AD will be reforming its present structures to match the high level of support for AD.

“Nearly one in every 10 Maltese and Gozitans chose AD in last June’s election. In the 10th district one in every five voted for AD.

“We must build an inclusive political home for the thousands of people who yearn for a new style of politics based on real pluralism, social justice and the protection of the environment.

“There has never been a better time than this for the growth of the new style of politics represented by AD,” he said.
