Mayhem At Licensing Office?

Malta Independent Sunday, 1 August 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 23 years ago

An insurance representative told The Malta Independent on Sunday that the situation at the end of the month is intolerable. A particular case in point is an application that was to be renewed by the end of July. Payments to the Malta Transport Authority and the insurance company were made by the first week of the month but the licence arrived last Wednesday, 28 July. It appears that the insurance companies’ practice is to take a number of renewals in one go to the Licensing Office which are returned back after they are processed. However, it appears that the time for processing is taking pretty long with one or two weeks being described as quite the norm. Such a situation inevitably creates an amount of tension and frustration due to the untenable delays, keeping in mind that some officious warden will be more than ready to book any car whose road license has expired by just one day.

Insurance companies are advising that they cannot guarantee timely licence renewals if payment is sent after the 20th of each month. It appears that even if one sends payment in the first week of the month, there are still huge delays. When are we ever going to learn how to give a proper service?
