Joseph Scerri, 45, from Vittoriosa, pleaded not guilty to making the gestures in his hometown, which is celebrating the feast of St Lawrence, disobeying police orders and breaching the peace. The incident took place on Sunday evening.
He was granted bail against a personal guarantee of Lm100.
Inspector Anthony Cassar prosecuted while Dr Noel Camilleri appeared for the defendant.
