In a statement issued yesterday by the Department of Information, government explained that the decision to increase the price of a loaf of bread was taken in view of the increase in the price of wheat on the international market.

As a result of this increase, the price of flour was also increased by 56 cents per sack.

The new price for bread was decided on two counts. The first is a result of the increase in the price of wheat and the second is to compensate for the rise in the cost of living. A small loaf will now cost 11c and a large loaf will cost 17c.
