On Tuesday, The Malta Independent quoted sources giving a detailed account of what transpired during the meeting. TMID’s report led to statements also being made by the General Workers Union and Union Haddiema Maghqudin.
The confederation said that it is duty-bound to inform its affiliates about what goes on during MCESD meetings. However, the CMTU undertakes to do its utmost to protect the confidentiality of such meetings.
The CMTU suspects that confidential information about discussions being held at MCESD is being passed on to the public in order to hinder agreement on the social pact, the necessity of which is felt by all the social partners.
As far as it is concerned, the confederation stands by its decision to maintain confidentiality on all MCESD proceedings in the coming weeks, as was agreed at the last meeting, in the interests of all concerned.
