During a discussion on the topic on Super One radio, Labour MP Leo Brincat said that the investigation is necessary, especially after former minister John Dalli claimed Richard Cachia Caruana controlled and even pushed for the purchase of the

property.

Mr Brincat said the auditor general should launch an investigation since Mr Dalli said Mr Cachia Caruana was responsible for the choice of the site and had been heavily involved in the refurbishment of the building and other aspects of the purchase.

The Labour MP said that sources close to Castille alleged that Mr Cachia Caruana also had a hand in the purchase of the Maltese embassy in Piccadilly, London.

The European Movement also frowned upon the government’s decision to buy such an expensive embassy in Brussels, said Mr Brincat. The movement said that although Malta is pleading with the EU to remain a full benefactor of funds, the government had spent almost Lm500,000 on the accession celebrations and had bought a Lm9 million residence in Brussels, next door to the European Commission, which is something not even richer countries have done.

Mr Brincat claimed the movement alleged that someone is working behind the government and taking important decisions.
