Fireworks Display preparations make it difficult to reach Mosta Health Centre

Malta Independent Friday, 13 August 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The parking area close to the centre has been closed to make space for the fireworks display and anyone wanting to get to the health centre by car must manoeuvre his way among kiosks and barriers. If, of course, the road is kept open, as there were police barriers already in place yesterday.

Two kiosks were stationed just outside the entrance to the centre, one on the same side of the road and one opposite it. A patient who visited the centre on Wednesday told The Malta Independent that one of the kiosks was parked in the space reserved for ambulances.

TMID visited the site yesterday and found that this particular kiosk had been moved slightly to make way for an ambulance, but the space provided was still minimal.

Cars on the way to the Mosta Health Centre entrance usually get back onto the main road through the car park. Since this has been closed to traffic, cars must pass through a narrow winding road since all other roads are one-way.

A passer-by wondered whether an ambulance, which is larger than an average car, could also use this route on the way to hospital in an emergency. Unofficial sources claimed the feast arrangements have caused an inconvenience to patients and have also raised concern on what would happen if there was a true emergency.

In spite of all this and the evident chaos caused by these preparations, an official of the Mosta Health Centre claimed no complaints had been made. TMID tried to contact the Mosta local council for a comment but there was no reply.
