A Planning Directorate case officer explained to the Mepa board that the work outlined in the application under review by the Works Department had already been carried out, despite an enforcement notice.

The board postponed the hearing to a further date because there was another application connected to this work and the board deemed it more appropriate to hear both applications at once.

The windmill has been extensively refurbished recently and the application in question relates to the construction of a new road from Zurrieq Road to Tahhan Street and the introduction of a mini-roundabout between Zurrieq Road, Sant Andrija Street and Bronja Street.

The original proposal to include a cul-de-sac on the northern flank of the windmill was not accepted by archaeological expert Joe Magro Conti as this was within the area of the catacombs. On the other hand, Mr Magro Conti did not object to the proposed road alignment along Tahhan Street, as long as this does not include excavations, as

otherwise these would have to be preceded by archaeological investigations.
