This is the fourteenth consecutive year that this annual competition has been organised by the Institute of Maltese Journalists. This year the ceremony took place at the Audiovision Centre studios in Hamrun.
The jury also prepared a detailed report about the submissions and their journalistic level, which was read before the presentation of the awards.
During the ceremony, the winner of the Gold Award was also announced. The Gold Award is given to the person deemed by the jury to have gone beyond the requirements of normal journalistic practice during his or her career.
The Jury for the Gold Award was composed of Manni Spiteri, Frans Camilleri and President Emeritus Prof. Guido de Marco as Chairman.
This year, the Gold Award was given to Charles Grech Orr.
In the six years since this award began, it has been won by Fr Joe Borg (1998), Anton Cassar (1999), Frank Attard (2000), J G Vassallo (2001), Anthony Montanaro (2002), and John Manduca (2003).
