Utter Arrogance

Malta Independent Thursday, 30 December 2004, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

AD Secretary General Stephen Cachia (TMID 28 December) threw in the “mathematical” towel when he wrote he was not going to “bore your readers with further mathematical arguments”.

This shows AD’s utter arrogance in insisting on a sixth (observer) seat in the European Parliament when the mathematics emanating from the electorate’s 12th June vote does not bear out its claim.

The “one man one vote’” principle is a basic tenet of democracy and numbers are absolute.

It is utter arrogance for a political party to claim that the votes it obtains should have a different weighting than those obtained by other parties.

In a democracy, who deserves to be elected – which is a subjective argument – is irrelevant.

What matters is the number of votes.

I rest my case.
