Lucian Dronca Requested by some Gozitan teams

Malta Independent Thursday, 6 January 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Birkirkara’s central Romanian defender Lucian Dronca is on the wanted list of some Gozitan clubs, it was known yesterday. However, the Romanian is not expected to be released by the Stripes as coach Stephen Azzopardi still considers him as one of the mainstays in the Stripes defence.

There were also some rumours that Valletta had made an enquiry over his availability, but City’s executive vice-president Paul Spiteri said that apart from Oretan, Valletta were not interested in any other player.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Stripes confirmed that they are acting cautiously on the transfer market, although it was possible to recruit one or two more local players this month to strengthen their squad.

It is also possible that the Stripes will be looking abroad to try and fill in the gaps which they think they need strengthening.

At present, Birkirkara have three foreigners – Dronca, Monye and Doda – and if a new foreigner arrives, then one of them will have to make way.
