Ivan Woods Chooses Sliema

Malta Independent Monday, 10 January 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

Pieta and Malta striker Ivan Woods yesterday chose Sliema Wanderers as his next destination.

Birkirkara and Marsaxlokk had also been in the chase for his signature, but it is understood that his first preference went to Sliema because he had more chance of playing regularly.

Sliema last week had also announced the arrival of Ray ‘Zazu’ Farrugia as head coach of their Football School. Farrugia was Pieta coach until last season and it was under his guidance that Woods started to grow in stature – a road which has now also landed him a place in the national squad.

At Sliema he joins a striking force which already includes Danilo Doncic, Adrian Mifsud and Orosco Anonam.

Coach Edward Aquilina and Hugh Caruana have also been admirers of the player and they are now expected to include him in their formation tomorrow to make his debut in the match against St Patrick.
