Rescue Marsascala

Malta Independent Thursday, 13 January 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Residents of the South, beware, here comes the stench and foul smell again, with a difference! This time with a vengeance for it will be five times larger, with repulsive and nauseating effects that are five times bigger.

The government has decided to concentrate all domestic waste (rubbish) to the Marsascala waste recycling plant and thus enlarge the present plant five times its size to handle all of Malta’s waste.

How much more can the southern population suffer?

Hal Far could have been converted to a recreational park but instead it has been turned into an industrial zone.

Ghar Lapsi’s natural beauty has been disfigured with the largest reverse osmosis plant in Malta.

Birzebbuga residents have to bear the Freeport’s negative consequences.

Marsaxlokk has been raped with the power station.

Il-Hofriet sea inlets had their ecosystem devastated by hot contaminated water discharged from the power station cooling system.

Xaghjra residents have to stomach all the untreated sewage flowing just a few metres of the shore.

Marsascala sea has been polluted with the tuna pens and, to add insult to injury, plans are underway to concentrate all tuna pens and fish farms off the coast of Marsascala at Munxar.

Now the residents of the South have to bear the waste recycling plant with all its negative consequences, cheating the southern population of the last remaining unspoiled residential and recreational resort of Marsascala.

Fgura, Zabbar, Zejtun and Marsascala (47,000 residents) will have to bear directly the entire negative consequences and repercussions.
