I fully agree with the government’s decision to impose eco-tax on plastic bags. Although customers find it hard to accept, I am aware that it would be beneficial for our future population, especially knowing that plastic is one of the main factors that contribute to environmental problems.

To date, thousands of cloth bags have been sold (at a reasonable price of 25c) thus indicating that the Maltese population is fully aware of the current situation being faced by our country.

I also agree with the fact that plastic sheeting used by farmers to cover their seedlings has been exempted from this tax. Finally, I would like to encourage school teachers to persuade their students during their lessons and make them aware of plastic and the hazard it causes to the environment.
