Resorting To insolence

Malta Independent Sunday, 16 January 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

From A. A. Camilleri

I am sure Daphne Caruana Galizia does not need championing by the likes of A. M. Bezzina and Dr G. Debono (TMIS, 9 December). She made her views about kerosene price increases known in her article of 12 December, probably read my reply of the 19th (or she may have not) and left it at that.

But then along came Mr Bezzina and Dr Debono, with hardly any arguments to challenge my views, resorting to insolent venting of their spleen against me.

I have nothing further to say to Mr Bezzina except to state that (1) I still hold to my views on the matter, thank you very much (this also applies to Dr Debono and that’s the end of the matter as far as I am concerned). (2) I never suggested such silliness as “kerosene users should stop heating their homes, because I feel fine at 12 celsius”. Such silly comments about scales of temperature were only resorted to by Mr Bezzina. (3) I hardly care what political views Mr Bezzina holds. But if I had to, I could guess, with little effort and to a high degree, what these are. (4) I am so grieved Mr Bezzina could not penetrate my “thick” mind and succeed in making his comments understood by me and (5) claiming that an extra Lm300 to Lm400 per annum are needed to heat homes by kerosene heaters is simply outrageous and deserves no comments.

As for Dr Debono, if he thinks that accusing others (me) of writing insulting letters makes him immune to criticism of insolent writing on his part, he is mistaken. This is not the first time that Dr Debono has offended with his writing. His spiteful, arrogant and patronising letter does not deserve consideration.

A. Camilleri
